Japanese media reported that a pipe bomb was thrown at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida while he was giving a speech outdoors in Wakayama on Saturday.

The media reported that an explosion-like sound was heard at the scene. Public broadcaster NHK reported that Kishida hid out at the site following the explosion and remained safe.
